MOED
Existential crisis
Israel and the entire Jewish people are in a state of upheaval. Threatened by external enemies, we also encounter enormous challenges from within. Extreme polarization is tearing us apart, as we wrangle over profound questions of identity and values. If we are to survive as one society and one people, especially at this time, we urgently need a moral and spiritual compass that will guide us all, excluding no one, toward a future of unity and prosperity.
What is the meaning of a sovereign Jewish state? What is the desirable relationship between Israel and world Jewry? What is our mission as a nation at this time? Today there is no entity that can provide answers acceptable to all parts of the nation. Our current leaders feed on controversy, rifts, and even incitement, and have no motive or desire to rise above them. We need a different kind of leadership, a spiritual leadership founded upon moral values, that can light our way to a better reality.
Our response
At Beit Morasha we believe that the remedies cannot be found at the level of political and economic discourse or the interest-driven arrangements prevailing today. To discover sustainable solutions and preserve our Jewish nation as a united entity, we must delve into the deeper dimensions of ethics, values and spiritual insight, and develop new, inclusive paradigms.
To this end we established MOED , an apolitical civic initiative which brings together some of the best minds from all sectors of our people, both in Israel and the diaspora – religious and secular, academic and military, orthodox and pluralist, and many more – to mutually contain and explore the diverse narratives, tackle the most burning issues that drive us apart, and rebuild a shared ethos and a common Jewish identity.
Our impact
The MOED think tanks, consisting of experts, leaders, and policymakers from different spheres, address complex questions from a multidimensional perspective – to ultimately produce effective collaborative outputs: policy papers, practical proposals, and strategic roadmaps that reflect fresh, original thinking on a range of critical issues.
For maximum impact, these paradigm-shifting documents are distributed to government officials, organizational leaders, and other policymakers, and also shared with the public through a range of digital channels.
